If you didn’t know this already, (which you should know) pink is my absolute favorite color and anything Barbie is my entire aesthetic. So when I heard there would be an actual Barbie café all i could think was “TaKE my MonEYY” and sure enough, they did!
There was no way I could miss out on this FUNtastic opportunity.
As we know, last summer's hype was all around the Barbie Movie. I was super excited to see all of the appreciation around one of my childhood inspirations and the amount of pink I was constantly seeing, had me gAGged. #GAGCITY
Arrival
Our commute from our town is about an hour and half train ride towards the city so we got there around 12:30. Then took a 20 minute cab ride towards the Malibu Barbie Café in New York.
We had our reservation from 1:30 pm until 3:30 pm, we got there a couple of minutes early and were told to hang outside until our table was ready. While we waited outside, we noticed the staff greeted each party with “Hi Barbie!” or “Hi Barbie and Ken!” after they walked through the doors, which I thought was a kind touch to the aesthetic.
Not too long after, my name was called and we walked through the glass doors of the Malibu Barbie Café. My eyes glanced from the beautiful decor to the menu items with excitement. As I mentioned before, we noticed how each party was greeted with that particular phrase, to say the least, that we were not greeted like the others which was lowkey confusing because we were perfectly on theme with our “Barbie and Ken” aesthetic. Shortly after, we were seated at our table and greeted by our waitress and given our barbie themed menu and given the opportunity to order drinks and any other side options.
Food & Service
A couple of weeks prior, when we initially bought our tickets we had pre-picked our food options. At the time we both came to a decision that we would be in the mood for pancakes during our afternoon reservation.
About 10 minutes after we were seated our food was served! The pancakes definitely looked pretty and aesthetically pleasing but I’m not going to lie, I wish I chose something else because they came out cold and hard. We both barely finished it due to its inability to eat :| I think our waitress could tell that we didn’t really enjoy our food and lacked to check up on us or offer any other options.
If I had a chance to go back I would get the grilled cheese or cheeseburger with french fries of course!
food and service rating: 5/10
Barbie Aesthetics
So when it comes to a theme, just know I’m looking for THAT ambience! The atmosphere was filled with beach themed decor to match that Malibu Barbie aesthetic.
The vibrancy and attention to detail really caught my eyes. I had a great time taking pictures at the different photo ops throughout the café and I love how they came out! One thing I will say about each photo area is that it was very close to the dining area. I wish the photo area was completely separate from the dining area so we didn’t interrupt the people while they were trying to enjoy their food. I felt a little awkward so I'm sure the people eating did as well.
Aesthetic rating: 9/10
Final Thoughts
Overall, despite my lack of enjoyment of the food and service I still had a fun time with Josh and enjoyed the aesthetic of the café! Our outfits were on point and since the pictures came out really cute, I'm fine with my experience. If you went to the Malibu Barbie Café, I would love to hear about your experience! I hope your experience with the food & service was better than ours!
I also created a drawing based off of my experience! I really took in the Malibu Barbie aesthetics and put them into my art! I had a fun time recreating this memory!
